Sarah Palin

Sarah to Console Tornado Survivors Today

Sarah said last night that she and Todd will travel to Birmingham today to offer solace to those who lost loved ones and property in the recent tornadoes.

“We want these folks in those parts to know that they are not alone in this time, and Americans come together in moments like this to help support and to rebuild,” she said.

I hope a Birmingham journalist will ask Sarah one simple question:  “How much of the $100,000 fee you got last night for being Trig’s mother will you be donating to Alabama tornado victims?”

I doubt that the question will be asked (last night, Sarah took only pre-approved questions), but I think we know what the honest answer would be.

However, I’m sure Sarah’s inspirational words about how sometimes God has to tear down so He can build anew will do more to lift spirits than a mere cash donation.

But here’s another idea:   I happen to know first-hand that Todd has a whole crew of fence-builders on call 24/7 in Wasilla.  Maybe he could send them down for  a couple of weeks to help with rebuilding?  After all, I won’t be returning to Lake Lucille until September.

Incidentally, attendance at Sarah’s speech last night was estimated at between 150-200.  Heck, when the crowd is that small, you don’t have to estimate:  just count ’em.

God to Sarah:  “A hundred and fifty is all you could draw?  You’re wearin’ out your welcome, gal.  Better go home.”

Oh, great! Sarah Hires Breitbart Blogger as “Foreign Policy Adviser”// UPDATE: The Mouse that Roared

After being jilted by neocons Randy Scheunemann and Michael Goldfarb, who told her “flat out: ‘We can’t give you the time,'” Sarah has scooped up Peter Schweizer, a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution and editor in chief of Breibart’s Big Peace blog.

You can take a look at this huckster in his natural habitat at his personal website.

For every rat that deserts a sinking ship, a new mouse can always be lured aboard.

UPDATE:

Mamma mia! I had no idea that Schweizer is so loony he once wrote a book attacking Disneyland and Disneyworld:

Disney actually allows gays in their theme parks!  So keep your good Christian kiddies away.

Sarah and Jerry Boykin Share Stage at Colorado Christian U.//UPDATE//UPDATE 1.1

The Colorado Independent offers a fine preview of this “patriotic/Christian” event.

Conservatives4Palin site promised live streaming, but all it does is crash my browser.

Probably God telling me not to bother paying attention.

Even God must have limits when it comes to Sarahspeak.

UPDATE:

Jason Salzman at http://bigmedia.org writes that “neither Boykin nor Palin is going to discuss Islam,” and says: “She and Boykin should be asked the question that the organizer of tonight’s event posed but refused to answer, ‘Can a good Muslim be a good American?'”

Don’t hold your breath for either the question or answer. Although I think we know that if they were honest, both Palin and Boykin would have to answer, “No.” Their God is for evangelical Christian dominionists only. It’s not a big tent. Leave your shoes and rationality at the door before entering. But bring your guns, willful ignorance, intolerance and cross-hair maps. Donations to the cause gratefully accepted–especially by Sarah.

UPDATE 1.1

ABC News’ Claton Sandell reports from Lakewood, Colo.:

Sarah Palin gave passing praise to President Obama’s “decisive leadership” in the operation to kill Osama bin Laden, though in a speech here Monday night the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate did not once use Obama’s name.

“We want to thank our president,” Palin said, but then she quickly shifted focus to the previous administration for having laid the groundwork.

“We thank President Bush for having made the right calls to set up this victory,” Palin told a cheering crowd.

So Sarah mentioned Bush by name, but not Obama.  One thing about people devoid of class:  they’re consistent.

Hey, tomorrow is a new day.  And Sarah will get up in the morning and realize that she’ll have to live with herself throughout it.

No wonder–as I report in THE ROGUE–she used to come home when she was mayor of Wasilla and go to bed at 4 p.m. with a box of chocolates and a handful of celebrity picture magazines.

Living with that self for sixteen hours a day would exhaust any of us.

The Girl Can’t Help It: Nastiness & Pettiness Form Sarah’s Core//UPDATE 1.1

Even knowing that it was the right thing to do–both from a standpoint of simple decency and for her own self-interest–Sarah Palin last night could not bring herself to congratulate President Obama.

On Twitter, she thanked “American men and women in uniform.”

On Facebook, she added “our intelligence services.”

But for President Obama, Commander-in-Chief of U.S. military and intelligence forces, nary a word.

She’s just too mean-spirited and resentful.  It’s in unguarded moments that character–or lack of same–most often reveals itself.

First, after the Giffords shooting and again last night, Sarah inadvertently gave us a glimpse of what passes for her heart.

It ain’t pretty.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that when Sarah appeared at the MSNBC party after the White House Correspondents dinner, “Invariably, onlookers whispered to their friends: ‘Isn’t she pretty? Isn’t she nice?‘”

Answers?

No, and no.

UPDATE:

Even Rush Limbaugh was able to say what needs to be said:  “Thank God for president Obama.”

Snarky Sarah has painted herself into another lonely corner by refusing to give the president credit for the successful Bin Laden operation.

UPDATE 1.1

Limbaugh now says he was being sarcastic, which makes him every bit as horrid as I always thought he was.  Let’s see what Sarah says tonight at the “Honor the Troops” event at Colorado Christian U.

Sarah back in her Element Tomorrow: Colorado Christian University

In the afterglow of her chock-full-o-celebrities weekend in Washington, and hard on the heels of her $115,000 speech at a junior college in California today, Sarah will be back among her own kind tomorrow at Colorado Christian University.  From the CCU website:

“What We Believe”

Colorado Christian University unites with the broad, historic evangelical faith rather than affiliating with any specific denomination. In this commitment, the University embraces the following declarations of the National Association of Evangelicals:

We Believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We Believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We Believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We Believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We Believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

We Believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We Believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sarah will be joined by retired Lt. Gen. William G. “My God can beat up your God” Boykin.

Boykin’s long list of flagrant offenses against decency and democracy is itemized in the “Controversies” section of his Wikipedia profile.

Boykin’s presence on stage tomorrow will make Sarah’s appearance at Colorado Christian one of those rare occasions when she might not be the nuttiest person in the room.

How about a Palin-Boykin Evangelical Third Party ticket in 2012?

And You Thought She Was Finished?///UPDATE

Where was Sarah today, before flying to Fresno for her $115,000 speech tomorrow at a junior college thirty miles to the south?

Holed up in her Lake Lucille compound, licking her self-inflicted wounds?

Hardly.

If you thought that, it just proves you don’t know Sarah: as irrepressible as she is irresponsible.

Look at the picture above. That’s newly-spruced up Todd on the left; then Sarah, looking at Todd as if she’d just learned that all the rumors about him and his love child and the hookers had been confirmed; then Greta Van Susteren, the Fox TV  blatherer who last summer called me “The Wasilla Stalker,” and on the far right, Bill Press, who hosts a theoretically “liberal” talk show on SiriusXM satellite radio, and who’s proven himself a more tolerant man than me, because I’d never let Scientologist Van Susteren get close enough to me to put her arm on the back of my neck.

Washington Post gossip column Reliable Source has such a wonderful account of this event that I’ll republish here in full, rather than just posting a link:

Sarah Palin is surprise guest at White House Correspondents’ weekend parties
By The Reliable Source
And you thought this weekend was going to be all about Donald Trump! Probably only one other lightening-rod VIP could have stolen the mogul’s buzz in the pro-am zeitgeist tournament known as the White House Correspondents’ weekend, and darned if she didn’t pull a surprise appearance. You betcha, she did.

Sarah Palin walked into the Georgetown home of Mark Ein shortly before noon Saturday to dazzle a brunch crowd of Washington insiders and visiting luminaries. Black bell-sleeved summer dress, shiny hair. She and a clean-shaven Todd Palin posed for a few photos with hosts Wendi Murdoch and Susan Axelrod, then carved a path through the crowded dining room with their host for the weekend, Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren.

So, a win for Van Susteren, scoring the buzziest guest? (Her other guest, Kate Hudson, had to bow out for movie-promotion commitments.) Sure, but with an asterix, for Palin’s not actually expected at tonight’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Van Susteren’s husband John Coale told us: “She’s just doing the brunch and the after-parties.”

Let’s forgive the Washington Post for misspelling “lightning rod.”  Because, that’s our Sarah, isn’t it?  “Just the brunch and the after-parties.”

She wouldn’t attend the dinner itself, because there she could not have made herself the center of attention.

But to all who still think she’s toast:  Sarah Palin plans to run for the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

She’s not kissing Beltway butt just because she likes the way it makes her lips feel.

UPDATE:

Thanks to a commenter for pointing out that the real reason Sarah is not attending the dinner itself–this is something the Washington Post gossip columnists apparently did not know–is because she’s picking up another $100,000 for speaking at the “Heroic Media:  Heroes among Us” dinner just across the District line in Bethesda, Maryland.  Heroic Media describes itself as “a faith-based non-profit that reduces abortion by helping women who face unexpected pregnancies learn hopeful alternatives through mass media advertising.”

Best way to stay non-profit is to pay Sarah a hundred thousand bucks a pop.

Sarah Cashes In Again

DON WARKENTIN:  Junior College President is Sarah’s Latest 100K+ benefactor.

Even while asking SarahPAC donors for a new round of contributions, (“I know what a sacred trust it is to be asking you to contribute your hard-earned money to SarahPAC,”)–oops, wait a minute, wait a minute, hold it right there:

Asking for donations to a political action committee is a “sacred trust?”

Trust because you have to trust her not to spend the money on herself?

Sacred because Sarah herself is the sacred one God personally chose to prepare America for the return of Jesus, which she has said she knows will occur during her lifetime on earth?

Sacred trust: just one more phrase whose meaning eludes Sarah and her ghostwriting team of C students.

But speaking of C students, Sarah will plump up her personal treasure chest to the tune of $115,000 on Sunday when she speaks at West Hills Junior College in Lemoore, California, thirty miles south of Fresno.

Preparations have reached fever pitch.
The school’s president, Don Warkentin, says proceeds from ticket sales will go toward maintenance of the new Golden Eagle Arena, a $24 million indoor sports facility.

Sarah should feel right at home, no doubt reminded of the $18 million indoor sports arena she built while mayor of Wasilla, leaving the city staggering under the weight of long term debt.

But at least one West Hills JC student sees Sarah’s $115,000 fee as money well spent. Deseree Soto told a local ABC station,
“I think it’s actually really good… we always need someone to come down and motivate the students.”

Sarah’s speech will be entitled “More Power to the C Student,” echoing her recent comment to Greta Van Susteren.

“More Power to the C Student”

That could be Sarah’s 2012 campaign slogan, previewed last night in her interview with Greta Van Susteren, FOX News’ resident Scientologist.

“What the heck is wrong with asking the President of the United States to disclose what his college thesis was, what some of the Harvard Law Review papers were that he wrote? I don’t care about his grades. I don’t care if he was a C student. You know, more power to the C student. What I care about is what goes into his thinking today?…A lot of that could be reflected in the writings that he produced as a college and a grad student.”

That got me wondering about college theses.  Has anyone ever asked Sarah for hers?  Do you suppose the University of Idaho required her to write one before awarding her a degree?  Wouldn’t it be fun to read that?

Do you suppose Sarah’s college writings offer clues into the roots of what passes for her “thinking” today?

Forget Trig’s birth certificate:  Trump should demand to see Sarah’s college thesis.  He could send his investigators straight from Hawaii to Idaho.

William Shatner could give it a live reading, with bongo drum and bass accompaniment.

More from Andrew Sullivan Soon: UPDATE: He’s Delivered…

He writes today: “I’ve been struggling to write a long new post on this entire thing, and am almost happy with it.”

I can say this about Andrew: he recognized from the start that the combination of Sarah Palin and the bedazzled media’s failure
to expose her for the fraud she was and is represented a genuine and grave threat to democracy. At the time, the 2008 election result was far from certain. In her Christian dominionism, her ignorance, her willfulness, her petulance, her spitefulness and her unbalanced belief that God really had annointed her to impose her narrow view of Christianity on a sinful, secular nation, Palin posed a clear and present danger to our way of life.

And we are by no means out of those woods yet. I have no doubt that she is currently preparing for a Fall Offensive that she thinks will carry her into next year’s primaries on a wave of fresh momentum. Given the weakness of the GOP field (Donald Trump?!!) , she could still become the Republican candidate.

The campaign that would follow that calamity would tear this country apart as maybe nothing has done since the Civil War.

So be grateful that Andrew Sullivan is standing watch.

UPDATE

…and many won’t like what he says.

From the start, Andrew has made an effort to be scrupulously fair about the Trig question. For being willing to consider even the possibility that Sarah’s story was a hoax, he was derided. Today’s post is further evidence of his scrupulousness, and although I disagree with him about many things (he is a Republican, after all) I’ve never found him to argue from false premises.

However, I’m less persuaded than he is by the belated first-person accounts of Quinn and Loy.

Loy wrote the original ADN story that said what a shock it was to learn that Sarah was pregnant, because she never looked it.
Now, three years later, he suddenly remembers that, yeah, actually, she did look pregnant, I just didn’t notice it at the time? A good cross-examiner could have fun with that in a courtroom.

As for Quinn, it was widely rumored that he was romantically involved with Palin aide Ivy Frye while covering Sarah as governor for AP. He doesn’t work for AP any more. I don’t know why, but I’ve heard the story of his relationship with Fry often enough and from enough different people without axes to grind that, at the least, it gives me pause in regard to Quinn’s credibility.

But set aside questions about the motivation of these two, suddnly key “eyewitnesses,” who decided in unison to go public last week. As all cops, prosecutors and defense attorneys know, eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable. How about eyewitness testimony three years later?

I’m a Trignostic. I don’t have a dog in this fight. But I don’t agree with Sullivan that the “recovered memories” of Loy and Quinn (neither of whom I know, by the way) should be accepted as having significant weight.

Not only is eyewitness testimony unreliable, but these were young male reporters covering the most dazzling & sexy political figure in Alaskan history. Sarah invites them to view her (veiled) belly in private? And now–contradicting what they wrote at the time–they both decide retroactively that she was obviously pregnant?

Something about that smells like fish to me: and not like fish that even Todd Palin could sell commercially.

Sullivan says the Loy and Quinn accounts “buttress–powerfully–the case that this whole thing is a tempest in a spatula.” He finds Loy and Quinn “persuasive.” I don’t.

He’s also persuaded by this conversation that Laura Novak had with a pediatric specialist, who argues that Sarah Palin is not “weird” enough to have fabricated her whole story.

Hmm. I’m not so sure. That reminds me of the argument that friends of Jeffrey MacDonald made in his defense: he couldn’t have murdered his wife and children, because he’s not the kind of man who could have done that. Turns out that he did, and he was. So a long-distance psychological evaluation of Sarah by a pediatric specialist who’s never met her doesn’t rise to the level of evidence either.

My verdict? Jury still out. But we thank Mr. Sullivan for his testimony.

Refreshing Rationality from New Yorker’s Amy Davidson

Finally, someone who personally believes that Sarah Palin gave birth to Trig respects the right of
Andrew Sullivan and others to ask legitimate questions. Amy Davidson, a senior editor at The New Yorker posts on her Close Read blog.

This is like a breath of pure oxygen after choking on the aggressive contempt spewed by Salon, HuffPo, etc. over the past few days.

I can understand skepticism. But what’s fueling the anger of MSM toward those like Andrew Sullivan, who simply keep asking questions because no one is giving answers? You would think journalists would applaud Sullivan for doing his job. Instead, so many try to marginalize and demean him. I would expect this from hack polemicists like Breitbart, but I’d really like to know what’s behind the defensiveness at MSM sites such as Salon, Slate, and HuffPo. They laugh at and scorn Sarah for everything else she says, but on this one issue she’s declared beyond reproach and taken at her word? And the thoughtful and diligent Sullivan is ridiculed for saying it does matter if Sarah’s whole bit of performance art with Trig was only that?

What could matter more? This woman almost became vice president of the United States, and still harbors hopes (because God will open the doors for her) of becoming president.

I suspect, and certainly hope, that we’ve not heard the last from Andrew Sullivan on this question. I know we haven’t heard the last from me.
